Due to our powerful obsession with memories of the Cleveland Indians being awesome, Always The Jake is celebrating the one-year anniversary of The Streak by doing a brief recap of each game. Check back each day prior to game time to see the details of the game that took place one year ago that day!
Opponent: Detroit Tigers
Location: Comerica Park
Player of the Game: Corey Kluber (8 IP, 8K, 7K, 0BB)
Play of the Game: Abraham Almonte knocks home Edwin Encarnacion and Carlos Santana with an RBI single to cap a four-run fourth inning.
Season Record: 78-56
Streak Run Differential: +50
The Indians took the mystery out of this one early on, as Jose Ramirez, Encarnacion and Almonte notched RBI hits to give the Tribe a four-run lead they’d never relinquish. Almonte tacked on an added insurance run with a fifth-inning double.
Meanwhile, Kluber was in his usual Cy Young form across eight stellar innings. The only blemish on his final line was an RBI single by Bryan Holaday in the bottom of the seventh. After Kluber’s departure, Bryan Shaw and Cody Allen split duties in the ninth to nail down Cleveland’s tenth in a row.
